Chinese Internal Medicine

The use of Chinese Medicinals dates back before written word.  This sophisticated, natural approach to tonification will strengthen your body against disease.

UNIQUE DIAGNOSIS:  FROM THOUSANDS OF YEARS OF OBSERVATION INTO THE HUMAN SYSTEM, CHINESE INTERNAL MEDICINE RELIES ON THE TONGUE, PULSE, AND CHANNEL SYSTEM TO DETERMINE THE EXACT FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE INTERNAL ORGANS, THE LIMBS, THE SENSORY ORIFICES AND THE TISSUES THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE BODY.  INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON A SINGLE ORGAN OR SYSTEM, WE VALUE INTERRELATIONSHIPS OF DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WHOLE TO OPTIMIZE COMMUNICATION NEUROLOGICALLY, CHEMICALLY, AND MECHANICALLY IN ORDER TO REESTABLISH THE HEALTHY STATE.

UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE:  WE OVERCOME GREAT PHYSICAL OBSTACLES BY LOOKING AT THE BODY AND ITS STRESSORS WITH WISDOM AND CLARITY.  OUR DIET, EXERCISE, AND ATTITUDE AS THEY RELATE TO OUR PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL STATES PLAY IMPORTANT ROLES IN OUR WELLBEING.  THOUGH UNDEREMPHASIZED IN WESTERN MEDICINE, OUR MIND AND BODY HAVE A COMPLEX RELATIONSHIP THAT EITHER NOURISHES AND SUSTAINS US OR FORMS THE ROOT OF DIS-EASE.

TREATMENT MODALITIES

Acupuncture:   Not all acupuncture is the same! Ranging from potent stimulatory treatments for serious neurological conditions to minimalist delicate approaches for our most sensitive patients, expertise in a wide range of acupuncture styles increases adaptability for a fully individualized treatment. Styles of acupuncture practiced at Midwest Specialty Acupuncture include Tung’s Style Acupuncture, Tan’s Balance Method, Meridian-Based Acupuncture, Zhu’s Scalp Acupuncture, Auricular Acupuncture, Battlefield Acupuncture, TCM Acupuncture and Sports Medicine Acupuncture.

Chinese herbal medicine: Chinese herbal medicine has developed over the last 5000 years to deliver individualized combinations of medicinals based on exact pattern diagnosis.  That translates to effective herbal prescriptions that have little or no side effects because they fit our patients so well.  We also have an herbal pharmacy on hand so you can pick up your herbs with convenience.

Adjunctive Therapies: Additional therapies such as cupping, gwa sha, moxabustion, and various manual therapies will be offered at no additional cost based on our assessment of the patients’ needs.  These will be explained in detail and questions answered before application.

What can Chinese internal medicine treat?
This is a difficult question because the application of Chinese internal medicine is very broad, though not a panacea.  The list below, which is sanctioned by the NIH and the WHO, includes disorders that, back in 1997, showed enough evidence to warrant treatment by acupuncture.  There is no such list for Chinese herbal medicine.  If you have specific questions about the applicability of Chinese internal medicine for your condition, please contact us so we can discuss it with you personally.
