Hi and thank you for finding me. My name is Sophia Bouwens and I am a licensed Acupuncturist in Minnesota, with a background in brain health, pain management and hormonal balance. With a focus on the nervous system, I'm motivated to explore and strengthen the relationship between an individual’s conscious experience of their body and the body’s sub-conscious functioning. I seek to work with patients to discover how to harness this relationship for control and precision in athletic pursuits and everyday life.
In the past, I have competed in swimming, diving, and dance. However, my appreciation and passion for acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) came from personal tragedy. Acupuncture was crucial in my full recovery from a snowboarding accident, and a severe traumatic brain injury following a car accident from which I had to re-learn how to walk, talk, dress, and do other important everyday tasks that we take for granted. It is through my own story that I'm now dedicated to helping others experience the same profound impact of acupuncture and TCM in their own lives. I look forward to learning about your story and how to apply my interest and experience to help you!

What is Acupuncture Used For?
The many benefits of acupuncture extend to a variety of conditions from emotional disorders and addictions, to respiratory conditions, to digestive complaints and pain, as a result of an injury and chronic degenerative diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. It can also be helpful in neurological problems like migraines or Parkinson’s disease and aid in the recovery after a stroke.
